Why Wear A Hat?

Why? The usual comments I hear about why someone doesn't wear a hat are: I don't look good in hats. I don't want hat hair. I can't find a hat that fits. I don't have the attitude to wear a hat. Do these sound more like excuses?

If you didn't feel comfortable wearing a swimsuit, would you really deny yourself a trip to the beach?  Would you really deny yourself the chance to go to Hawaii because you couldn't find a swimsuit that really fits you well?

We all know the answer. You will make the effort to find options, and you will certainly try on as many swimsuits as possible till you find the perfect one.  The moment you dive into the water, what happens to your hair?  I would imagine the results are worse than hat hair.  By the way, what kind of attitude is required for one to go to the beach?  Is an attitude required at all?

So why put these limitations on yourself when you have the chance to make yourself up one way one day, and display another you another day?  That's what wearing hats can do for you.  It's makes you a personality that's memorable as you hold your head high with pride of wearing an artistic creation made just for you.  Another day you're going to a baseball game, and you don a casual cap to show your team spirit.

You see now how this works?  I guarantee you will receive compliments. I know you will stand out in a crowd, and you will never be out of options. There are as many types of hats as there are personalities. And just as many occasions to ... Wear a hat.

Hats Compete for Attention at the Kentucky Derby

What are the trends for hats for the Kentucky Derby 2016.  My philosophy in choosing hats for any occasion is to select a hat that not only reflects your personality, but also flatters your look and can be worn all day comfortably.

For the Kentucky Derby, the occasion is quite grand as we observe one beautiful purebred horse after another. There's excitement in the air in anticipation of who will win the crown.  I think that's why the wearing of hats at this event have also become competitive among women. The larger the brim,  the more presence one hopes to achieve.  The more outlandish, the more buzz and attention it will receive.  You want to be memorable. You also want to be recognizable. You want the same attention the jockeys on their purebreds demand. Everyone wants to win!

As in years past, women want their hats to coordinate with their outfits. It makes for a stronger statement in one's style choices. Color is an excellent tool in achieving the attention you demand.

The color experts at Pantone tells us that the colors for this season represents the mood of the times.  This season the colors are 'calming, comforting, warm and lend a notion of security'.

Fashion is a reflection of our society. It documents what is happening at the moment from season to season. Hats are the attention-getting,  finishing touch to any fabulous ensemble. Shapes, as with color, can be as subtle or as bold as you want it to be.

When you consider the various elements of design to create your perfect hat for the Kentucky Derby, also calculate into the mix the names of the potential contenders in the race, the colors worn by the jockey, and you may have just picked the winning combination for 2016.
